Approaching God in Prayer With Confidence

As much as we talk about prayer the reality is that we talk about  prayer far more than we actually pray. By why?

There are a lot of reason why we don’t prayer as the Word of God encourages us. I’d  like to address one main reason we don’t go to our Heavenly Father in prayer, we don’t feel worthy to do so.

Honestly,  we don’t feel confident that we are worthy of approaching God in prayer.  Because we’re living in a world that highlights and calls attention to faults and failures, we take that attitude with us as we think about approaching God.

But here are some thoughts I’d like for you to consider that should help you to approach God in prayer with confidence.

Scriptures:

“12 in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him [that is, our faith gives us sufficient courage to freely and openly approach God through Christ]. Ephesians 3:12 AMP
“Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].” Hebrews 4:16 AMP

Having Confidence in Prayer

  1. Prayer is not a conditional privilege. Prayer is the privilege given to every person who has placed their trust in the finished work of Christ. We confident access to God through faith in Christ. As a Christian it is your right and your privilege to approach God because Christ has made the way by removing any impedance that previously existed.
  2. Prayer is act of dependency.Prayerlessness is an act of independence. To go to God in prayer is to say “God I acknowledge Your strength and I am admit my weakness”. Humility moves the heart of God. He loving receives us when we come to Him seeking His strength, His direction, and His wisdom.
  3. Prayer brings all things to light. The enemy only has victory over us when we keep our faults and failures in the dark.  Prayer brings them to the light of truth where God then meets us with healing and forgiveness. It is pointless to hide our actions from God because He sees and knows everything about us.

Feelings of unworthiness to come before God is the result of dwelling in our failures. We need to come to God in repentance, in openness, but never should we hide from Him in shame.

John 3:16 tells us that God so loved us all that He gave His only begotten Son to die for our sins. If Christ has died for us, and we’ve accepted His gift of salvation through Christ, then why would God reject us in prayer? He doesn’t. And this is the reason you can have confidence in approaching God in prayer.
